The Chevrolet Corvette first appeared in 1953 as a unique American entry into the sports
car market dominated by European makes. Although not a muscle car by definition, the Corvette
used muscle car powertrains and has represented American performance for almost fifty years.
The Sting Rays were the automotive success story of the year. Chevrolet had to add
a second shift to its St. Louis, Missouri assembly plant to keep up with demand, and
dealers reported owners waiting months for their cars to be built. By the end of the
model year, Corvette production would surpass the 20,000-unit milestone.
1982 was the first fuel-injected Corvette in nearly two decades. It had a much different type of
fuel-injection system since mini-computerization had arrived. In the gas tank was a new electric
fuel pump. Externally, the final version of the "big" (Stingray-style) Corvette changed little,
but the Collector Edition model displayed quite a few special features, highlighted by a frameless
glass lift-up hatch in place of the customary fixed backlight.
Classic American Muscle 1982 Chevrolet Corvette. This model is part of the final version
of the "big" (Stingray-style) Corvettes. The engine is a 5.7-liter Cross-Fire Injection
(CFI) Chevrolet V8 with a boosted output of 200-hp. The transmission is the standard four-speed
automatic. The exterior is Two-Tone Light and Dark blue with Removable glass roof panels and a Blue
Vinyl interior. Factory options include Pwr. Steering, Pwr. Brakes, Air Conditioning,
Pwr. Windows, Pwr. Drivers Seat, Tilt/Telescopic and Electric Mirrors. Runs and drives extremely well.
