The full name "Oldsmobile" was first used in 1900. Prior to that, the automobiles were
known simply as "Olds", built by the Olds Motor Works of Lansing.
There are those who claim that it was Oldsmobile that created the first muscle car when it
stuffed its hot new fullsize Rocket V8 into its midsize model to create the Olds 88 and Super 88
series back in 1949. But it wasn't until 1964 that Oldsmobile would return to the concept,
encouraged by the success of the Pontiac GTO.
For 1970, option code W-32 created one of the all-time great street-sleepers of the muscle
car era. Basically, this code resulted in the 442 drivetrain, which included the 365-horsepower
455 and dual exhausts, stuffed into the new-for-'70 "formal roof" Cutlass Supreme body style.
A Turbo 400 automatic was the only trans offered. With Cutlass Supreme styling and the
understated SX ornamentation wrapped around a 442 heart, the SX had to be Olds' ultimate
Q-ship. By the way, the SX package became option code Y-79 in 1971, the only other year it
was offered.

This 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SX is one of the all-time great street-sleepers
of the muscle car era. Powered by Oldsmobiles 455ci 365 Horsepower V8 with tons of
modifications and a 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission with hurst shifter. The exterior is black
with red hood stripes and a black vinyl interior. Tons of performance modifications including:
